Iced Thai Tea

I traveled to Thailand last year and was introduced to a plethora of wonderful new flavors and unique tastes. At some point after my travels, I started to miss some of those tastes. Some, like Pad Thai, can be found locally without much effort. Others, like Durian fruit, can not be so easily obtained. But I was determined to find one refreshing taste in particular, Iced Thai tea.
One hundred miles from my home at an International grocery store, Jungle Jims, I was able to finally find some Thai tea. It even already had the sweet milk and sugar flavor added, which makes it so wonderful to enjoy. "Yipee!" I thought, as I placed it in my cart, paid and journeyed home to enjoy. I was in for a surprise, while this instant Thai tea is wonderful as a hot tea, it is not as an iced tea. Imagine making hot cocoa and then putting it on ice. That's what happened, the flavor was off, it oddly had a soapy taste and was not enjoyable.
Two months later I found myself back at Jungle Jims and in the aisle ready to purchase more Instant Thai tea. But it was sold out! My heart had been set on it for weeks since I ran out of the one I previously purchased. I looked around and to my surprise I found a very large reasonably priced bag of Loose Leaf Thai black tea. So I thought I'd give it a try and look up how much sweetener to add rather than go home empty handed. It took some trial and error, but I got the formula correct and I'm going to share it for those who love tea and want to try a new one and for those who have tried it when in Thailand and missing it as I did.
